Given to Franchised Alumnus.
An alumnus is someone who actually trained in the Dojo of Sensei Urban as a Dojo Member and received their Black belt from Sensei Urban!
“Not someone who just belonged to his association”!!!
These are the membership cards Sensei Urban used to give us for dojo membership.
My first name was “The Machine” and my Hall number was “27”.
In the 90’s he changed that to “SEMPER-FI” and Hall # “274”
Photos below were taken in Dayton and Lonnie’s Guinee’s House. Sensei used to call it “The Dayton Hilton” where he would come and spend weekends there to relax and write. He had the third floor suite all to himself and his quests!
We had a dojo in the garage with a concrete floor with a small carpet. Very typical of those days. Sensei used to say it was the best surface to learn how to fall on.
My first USA Goju instructor was Sensei DUKE M KASTEN. They didn’t come more serious than Duke when it came to training and being qualified. I’m happy it went the way that it did. He was the one who brought us to train in Chinatown from time to time and also the one who left us with Sensei Urban to train with when he re-located to Israel. Thank you Duke!!! Sensei Paul Sabot also trained with him . Sensei Sabot and I tested for brown belt together.
